About

b. 1986, HK.

I’m a multidisciplinary designer who has worked in a variety of fascinating fields with clients both large and small.

I began my design career in 2013 as a game designer for educational games. In that role, I collaborated with a team of engineers and artists, along with several SMEs in both English and Spanish to create games that succeeded in teaching the subject and engaging students. One of the games we created for McGraw Hill, Practice Spanish: Study Abroad, is still a top World Languages product 7 years after its release.

After that role, I worked as a senior member of an inpatient product team at an electronic health record (EHR) company. I researched and presented the workflows of doctors and nurses in a hospital setting in order to better understand our clients’ pain points when interacting with EHRs, and how our product could improve them.

I left that role in order to pursue a freelance career in preparation for starting a family. My goal was to have multiple sources of income while also caring for my children through the first two years of their lives. I succeeded in this goal, while gaining the rich experience of working with large and small clients in roles as diverse as visual brand design, surface pattern design and illustration, app design, and website creation. Most fun fact: I had an illustration licensed for and appear in the movie Jumanji in 2017. You can email me at pollard.cyn@gmail.com if you’d like to work together.

Outside of design, my interests include languages (I can speak English, Spanish, and German and can read a few others), neuroscience, puzzle games, folk music, and mind-bendy sci fi stuff like the multiverse. Currently reading: Until the End of Time by Brian Greene.
